Culligan, Kinetico, RainSoft and EcoWater Softener Prices (2026)

What Culligan, Kinetico, RainSoft and EcoWater publish about softener prices, how each sells, their stated warranties, and how to compare a dealer’s quote.

Short answer

Of the four big dealer brands, only Culligan publishes a price range: it says its softeners typically cost $1,999 to $5,999 to buy, with rentals starting as low as $9.95 a month. Kinetico, RainSoft and EcoWater sell through independent local dealers who quote each home, and their sites list no prices (read November 4, 2026). For comparison, online stores list salt-based softeners from $967 to $3,499, before installation.

Culligan, Kinetico, RainSoft and EcoWater are the best-known softener brands sold through local dealers. A dealer tests your water, recommends a system, quotes a price for your home, installs it and services it. That model makes prices hard to find: three of the four publish none at all.

What each brand publishes

Culligan

Home systems (softeners, whole-house filters, reverse osmosis (RO)) are sold, rented, financed, installed and serviced through local Culligan dealers, a mix of franchised independent dealers and locations Culligan buys and runs. Pitchers, dispensers and gravity countertop filters ship direct from shop.culligan.com, and the brand’s return policy refers to purchases from retailers.

Publishes a typical price range

Kinetico

Home systems are sold, installed and serviced only through independent authorized Kinetico dealers in the US and Canada; Kinetico’s FAQ says it does not sell direct to the public. Two exceptions run by Kinetico companies sell online: the Kube under-sink filter (kubewater.com) and the Nimbus Water Store (Nimbus Water Systems, Temecula, CA).

No prices published

RainSoft

Sold and installed through independent authorized RainSoft dealers after a free in-home water test. RainSoft also says it is in nearly 1,000 Home Depot stores as Home Depot’s preferred water treatment provider. No online store or published prices on rainsoft.com.

No prices published

EcoWater Systems

Sold, installed and serviced by independent EcoWater dealers ('Water Pros’) after a free in-home water test. No online store or published prices on ecowater.com.

No prices published

Culligan’s figures are its own: softeners that it says “typically cost between $1,999 and $5,999 to purchase,” and rentals “starting as low as $9.95/mo.” Your dealer’s quote is what counts.

Warranties, as the brands state them

A dealer quote is easier to compare when you know what the maker covers. These are each brand’s published terms for one softener line. Read the full warranty before you buy: terms differ by model, and some depend on the dealer’s service.

Softeners in certification listings

NSF/ANSI 44 is the standard for residential softeners. All four brands have softeners in a public listing:

From public NSF, WQA and IAPMO listings

42 covers taste and chlorine, 53 health contaminants (including PFOA and PFOS, two PFAS “forever chemicals,” when listed), 58 reverse osmosis, 44 softeners. A listing covers the models named in it; check the model number before you buy. Products not shown may be certified too: we list what we’ve checked.

How to compare a dealer’s quote

Ask for the quote in writing, and check that it says:

  • The capacity in grains. Our sizing calculator gives the size your water and household need, so you can tell whether the quote is in line.
  • Your water test results. Hardness in grains per gallon, plus iron if you’re on a well.
  • What’s installed. The bypass valve, the drain line, removing an old softener, and any permit.
  • The warranty, part by part. Tank, valve, resin and electronics often have different terms.
  • Service and salt. What a service plan costs and what it covers, and whether salt delivery is included or extra.
  • Rental terms, if you rent. The monthly price, the minimum term, and what it costs to buy the system later.

Then compare it with an online softener of the same capacity plus a plumber’s quote for installing it. Our cost guide has the online prices, and the installation guide covers the work.

Questions

How much does a Culligan water softener cost?

Culligan says its softeners typically cost $1,999 to $5,999 to purchase, and advertises rentals starting as low as $9.95 a month. Your local dealer sets the actual price after a water test.

How much does a Kinetico water softener cost?

Kinetico doesn’t publish prices. It says it sells all its products through independent authorized dealers, who quote each home.

How much does a RainSoft or EcoWater softener cost?

Neither publishes prices. Both sell through independent dealers who quote after a free in-home water test.

Is a dealer softener worth the higher price?

It depends on what the quote includes. Dealer prices usually cover the water test, installation and the dealer’s service; online prices are the equipment alone. Compare the dealer’s installed price with an online price plus installation, for the same grain capacity and warranty.
