How we make money

Some links on this site go to companies that sell water treatment products, such as softeners, filters and water test kits. If you click one and buy something, the company may pay us a commission. You pay the same price either way.

What a commission never changes

  • The readings. Every number about your water comes from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) or your utility, and we cite it where it appears. No company sees or approves our pages before they’re published.
  • Which products we show. We match products to your water by published certification (for example, NSF/ANSI 53 or 58 for reducing PFAS, the “forever chemicals”) and by capacity. A product that pays us more doesn’t appear more or rank higher. We don’t rank products at all.
  • Whether we say you need anything. If your water is soft, we tell you a softener isn’t worth it, whether or not anyone pays us for softeners.

How you’ll know

Affiliate links are marked as sponsored in the page code, as search engines require, and any page that carries one says so near the first link.

What we don’t do

We don’t sell your information, we don’t take payment for coverage, and we don’t run sponsored rankings. Questions go to help@thewatermonitor.com.
